Women’s golf struggles to take flight at Raven’s Nest Tournament

The women’s golf team finished at a combined 125 over par to notch a 13th place finish at the Bearkat Invitational held Monday and Wednesday.

The team was led by freshman Ashton Maddaloni on the final day who posted a third round five over par 71.

The Raven’s Nest golf course features a par 71 course of over 6,067 total yards. Junior Devanshi Naik entered the tournament having been the individual medalist last year as a member of Western Texas College.

She led the Warhawks in last week’s Rose City Collegiate posting a team-low 22 over par.

Through two rounds of golf Monday Naik led all Warhawks in 23 place overall. She began her first two rounds with birdies on the par-five nine and par-four second, but shot seven over outside of those two holes.

With 22 pars on the day she sat in 23rd overall.

Naik was followed by Maddaloni tied for 51st place at 19 over and RaeChelle in 58 at 23 over. Senior Leslie Atkins who competed as an individual stood tied for 73 after shooting a 30 over par 172.

The last day saw Maddaloni shoot a team-low 75. She started slowly shooting five over on the first 16 before birdieing the par-4 13 and par-5 14. She jumped nine spots to tie Naik for 42nd overall.

Freshman Olivia Landberg followed finishing 65th with junior Michaela Osborne right behind in 66th. Junior Leslie Atkins who competed as an individual finished in 69th and junior RaeChelle Leiken in 70th.

Houston Baptist had the top two individual finishers as well as the top team finish for the tournament. ULM will host the 2015 Fred Marx Invitational on October 19 and 20.
