SCOTT PLAZA – Students, faculty, and visitors officially welcomed the Christmas spirit to campus on Tuesday, November 30, at the eighth-annual Christmas at ULM ceremony.

Corey Reece, a sophomore Health and Physical Education major from Floyds Knobs, Indiana was this year’s Old Saint Nick. He was pleased with his role while he handed out candy, despite having only a few days to prepare.

“It was kinda a last second deal, but I’m glad I’m doing it,” said Reece.

The ULM Chamber Choir and The Round Table Brass Quintet kicked off the evening with carols, while Santa and his elf welcomed newcomers to the festivities.

This year Calvin Stafford, an SGA senator for the Health Sciences College, sang the solo “Mary Did You Know” in place of Miss ULM Jaden Leach.

Though President Bruno was involved in the Christmas celebration before as the Vice President of Business Affairs, he was glad to be involved in the tradition this year.

“It’s much more elaborate than when I was here, and this year we’re breaking with tradition. There is going to be a special guest,” said Bruno.

When it came time to “flip the switch,” he invited Kaylie Johnson to come help him. However, Avaianna “Ava” Stallings, ended up stepping in for her reluctant friend.

“We just came to watch, but Ava had fun,” Stallings’ mother said after Avaianna lit the courtyard with President Bruno.

“ULM’s ROTC wrapped up the chilly evening with a candle lighting ceremony as The Round Table Brass Quintet played “Joy to the World” as a final welcome for the holiday season.
