The search committee in charge of finding a new president for the University of Louisiana at Monroe has finally narrowed down the applicants to four semi-finalists.
The committee met last Tuesday in Baton Rouge to select the four finalists. The candidates will tour the campus Monday and Tuesday, where they will meet with the faculty, staff and students before interviewing a final time with the search committee.
On Wednesday, the search committee plans to deliberate and then suggest two candidates to the Board of Supervisors from the UL System.
The final selection could come as early as Oct. 22. The schedule for this weeks visits can be found on ULM’s homepage, www.ulm.edu.
The four semi-finalists chosen by the search committe board are:
J. William Berry is currently the Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. Berry received his Ph.D. in History at Princeton University after obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in History and English from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. From 2008 to present, Berry has also been a professor of American Studies at the University of Dallas. Berry has also written two books during his academic career, his latest titled “Home Ground: Southern Autobiography.” In his application, Berry said, “ I consider the University of Louisiana at Monroe to be a splendid opportunity that matches my own values and experience.”
Nick Bruno, is the Vice President for Business and Finance for the University of Louisiana System in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He has been in this position since leaving ULM five years ago. From 2002-2005 Bruno served as ULM’s Vice President of Business Affairs. Bruno received his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Mississippi, after getting an MBA from Southeastern Louisiana University and a Bachelor in Science in Accounting, also from Southeastern. In his application for presidency, Bruno said, “I look forward to renewing relationships I made in the University of Louisiana community and throughout its service region.”
Peter Fos is currently the Provost and Executive Vice President at the University of Texas at Tyler in Texas. He has held this position since 2008, while also being a professor in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Fos received his Ph.D. from Tulane University in Health Care Decision Analysis. He got his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from LSU Health Sciences Center, after completing his Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences at UNO. Fos has written four books, his latest being published in 2000. In his application, Fos said, “I look forward to working with the students, faculty and staff to enhance the tradition of excellence at ULM.”
Tom Moore is currently the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. Moore has filled this position since 2003, after being the Dean of College of Arts and Sciences for two years. He attended Harvard University for graduate school in Educational Management, after getting his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in Inorganic Chemistry and his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Huntingdon College. In his application, Moore said, “I would work to build strong relationships with the local and regional community and raise the visibility and recognition of ULM across the region, the nation and the world.”
