Do you like love stories? Suspenseful action? Well “Safe Haven” is the two-in-one movie for you.
“Safe Haven” stars Josh Duhamel as Alex, and Julianne Hough as Katie. As the movie progresses, you find out that Katie is not the only name she has.
The movie is set in South Port, N.C. It is a small community where everyone knows everyone and everyone’s business. Most tourists only stay there for 15 minutes, but the locals love their home.
Katie is new to South Port and she comes seeking a clean slate. Things are going smoothly for her, but it is obvious that she has trouble trusting people. Her trust issues are soon brought to light when her past catches up with her present.
Alex is a widow who is raising his two children on his own. He has been living in New Port for about a decade, so everyone knows his story and the struggle his wife went through. Alex deals with problems with his eldest child, Josh, who has a hard time coping with his mother’s death.
The relationship between Alex and Katie was expected- the previews of the movie alluded to that. There is a character that has a semi-surprising connection to Katie. I say “semi-surprising” because it was one of those things you figure out right before they reveal it.
I would rate “Safe Haven” 3 our of 5 stars. It was one of those predictable stories. I am a sap for deep love sagas, so I was excited to see this movie. The movie did not exceed my expectations.
The relationships in the movie could have been explored deeper. The love story was too easy.
It was easily attained, easily lost and easily regained. The other characters in the movie are hit on the surface. You do not get a sense of who they are.
The best part of “Safe Haven” was definitely the ending. I was able to figure out most of the movie, but the ending took me for a great surprise.
“Safe Haven” was an “ok” movie. Would I watch it again? Yes. Would I pay to see the film in theatres again? No. It is one of those movies you watch when it plays on ABC Family.
