ULM’s Up Til Dawn collected 7,803 fundraising letters Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at their annual Letter Sending Party held in the SUB Ballrooms.
If immediate cheers that met one MC’s question, “How was everyone’s Up Til Dawn experience tonight?” weren’t assuring enough, Andres Granada, junior marketing major from Baton Rouge, predicts the 2010 Letter Sending Party’s impact will match that of past years.
“We raise about $2,000 each semester with Captured for a Cure, but here we’re going to raise around $20,000 from this event alone, “ says Grenada.
Up Til Dawn team members aimed to gather fifty personal addresses to send letters asking friends and family to donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Letter writers were treated to free Raising Cane’s, Dominoes, and Catfish Charlie’s among other venders supporting the event. A game station in the back of the room provided bowling, Scene It, Apples to Apples, and Twister.
Negative Nancy, The Smoke Water Tree Frogs, Andi Sherman, Amber Atkins, Liz Bennett and Joshua Green performed as door prizes were called out throughout the night. A raffle was called at the end of the night with the biggest prize being an Apple iPod.
“Every year more people come, we raise more money, and we save more lives,” says Granada, “it’s more fun every year.”
It costs St. Jude more than $1.5 million a day to run. Every bit raised is crucial to saving lives.
