The Warhawks brought Texas State to the final minute, but a run by the Bobcats would put the game away.
ULM women’s basketball travelled to San Marcos, Texas, Saturday for a Sun Belt showdown. The loss dropped the Warhawks to 5-8 on the year with a 1-3 record in conference. The Bobcats moved to 8-6 with a 3-2 Sun Belt record.
First year head coach Jeff Dow said that his team played well, and was pleased to have taken the team picked to finish third in the conference to the final minute.
“I’m not a big moral victory guy, but there were definitely a lot of positives,” he said.
Senior Jade Wharton led the way for the Warhawks, tallying up 14 points.
Alayshia Hunter, Daja Chase and Sharnice Brooks also scored in double-digits for the Warhawks.
ULM was able to defend well around the perimeter, holding the Bobcats to 26.1% from behind the arc. However, a defensive breakdown in the final minute led to a big Texas State three to put the home team ahead.
The Warhawks will return to Fant-Ewing Coliseum this week for matchup with a pair of Trojans. They will play the Troy Trojans Thursday and will host the UALR Trojans that Saturday.
