With the help of Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity, students were able to take their Valentine’s Day festivities beyond buying chocolates and flowers.
All last week the men of Phi Mu held its first Valentine’s Day Gram Fundraiser. For $5 per song, members surprised students and staff with a serenade, singing popular hits like “Love on Top” by Beyoncé, “Perfect” by One Direction, “Jealous” by Nick Jonas and “Rhythm of Love” by the Plain White T’s.
“We had a huge turnout,” said Jordan Hollins, President of Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity.
Hollins led Beyoncé’s “Love on Top” during one of the many performances.
ULM piano instructor, Carolie White, said she was surprised during a piano class.
“I thought it was really sweet and the class loved it too,” White said.
Phi Mu was able to surpass their goal of raising $200, and sang to over 20 people.
Pre-Nursing junior and fraternity member Dominique Cheffin saids the fundraiser was “a real big success for the fraternity.”
Cheffin led the singing gram for “Perfect”, by One Direction for a lucky recipient.
When asked if they would continue this event for next year, members didn’t hesitate to say yes.
Psychology senior and fraternity member, Timothy Fuller, said “ULM campus should definitely expect to see bigger and better things to come.”
Valentine’s Day Grams are a creative way to say “I love you” or a fun way to embarrass a close friend.
Hollins foresees the singing grams to be a new ULM tradition.
