“Wanderlust” was the perfect name for the event that allowed students wanderers to receive henna tattoos, hair braiding and beading and flag face painting. There was also an origami booth set up that taught how to make paper boxes.
In the middle of the Quad, ULM alumna and West Monroe native Megan Fleming belly danced in a colorful, middle eastern dress.
Fleming became interesting in belly dancing in middle school when her best friend’s mother began taking classes and eventually began teaching the craft that Megan studied for 3 years. Megan recalls watching videos of belly dancing and trying to mimic the dancer’s moves.
When Fleming attended ULM she participated in the marching band, wind ensemble and the choir, all while practicing belly dancing on the side.
Fleming enjoyed dancing at the event and was glad she was asked to contribute to International Week.
“The international students make it worthwhile. They get so excited and into it and lift your spirits about what you’re doing. They make you feel like you’re doing great and it’s fun when they want to join in or want to take pictures,” Fleming said.
Fleming was also excited about participating in the other events that were offered and even had a chance to get a henna tattoo.
Nirjala Parajuli, a freshman computer information systems major and Nepal native also attended Wanderlust.
Parajuli attended several of the booths at Wanderlust event including getting the Nepal flag painted on her cheek.
Throughout the week Parajuli participated in different events that were held at the campus and even had a chance to participate in Tuesday’s Quad flash mob that pumped up spirits for the week’s events.
