Tennis sweeps senior day

It was a successful Senior Day for the ULM Tennis team as they won Saturday’s match against Georgia Southern posting a shutout with the nal score of 7-0. e Warhawks lone senior, Petra Horakova, was honored prior to Saturday’s match.

It was Horakova’s last home game as a Warhawk, and she led her team to victory in both doubles and singles action.

Her talent on the court shows her dedication, and that talent is re ected on paper with a 10-0 record in singles action.

Junior Stefana Andrei talked about what Horakova brings to the team. “Petra (Horakova) is a great player. She helps us out a lot and really brings our team together,” Andrei said. “I’m sad that this is her last game with us, and that she won’t be here next year. We will all miss her.”

The Warhawks gave Georgia Southern all they could handle and then some, overwhelming them with stellar play in both singles and doubles action.

In doubles action on court one, Horakova and Andrei won their match, 6-4, despite a furious comeback from the Eagles. ey got o to a great start to put the Eagles away early.

On court two, Karolina Snita and Madalina Grigoriu were neck and neck with the Eagles as there were two ties and four lead changes. Luckily, the Warhawks were able to capitalize on some mistakes from the Eagles, and the Warhawks nished the match strong with a nal score of 7-5.

On court three, Ti any Mylonas and Luana Stanciu also had a tough match.

They were down 4-3 early in the set, but they prevailed with some clutch plays and rallied to win the set 7-6.

Andrei talked about the teams shutout win. “We have a really good team, and I’m happy that we won this match on senior day. We need to keep working hard [and push] each other and try to get better even in practice.”

In singles action, ve of the Warhawks six players won in straight sets. e Warhawks were led by Andrei on court one. She dominated the match early by winning set one, 6-2, and set two, 7-6.

Mylonas had a strong outing against the Eagles by taking control of the match quickly on her way to a 6-0 and 6-2 win in two sets. On court three, Patricia Villar had a highly competitive match.

It was tight for a while with the players struggling to get a point, but Villar pulled through by winning two out of three sets, 3-6, 6-4 and 10-4.

Horakova talked about senior day and getting the win over Georgia Southern,

“I feel great, and I’m glad our team came together and won this match on senior day against a tough Georgia Southern team,” Horakova said.

“We were cheering for each other, and wecouldn’t ask for a better day. e weather was awesome. I think we have a really good chance to win conference and go undefeated to propel us to the NCAA Tournament.”

Horakova has enjoyed her time at ULM bonding with teammates and solidifying her legacy. She has contributed to a 10-1, 3-0 in- conference record.

She hopes for many more great seasons for years to come for her tennis family.

The Warhawks will put their nine game winning streak on the line in a pair matches on Friday April 7 in Arlington, Texas, against Arkansas State and in-state conference rival University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
