This past week, the ULM men’s basketball team failed to win a pair of games to Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky. The Warhawks (6-19, 1-10 SBC) have now lost six-straight games.
The Warhawks put up a strong fight against the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee just to end up losing once again in the final minute. The team started off well in the first half as they shot 50 percent from the field and took a 28-23 lead going into halftime. Senior forward Tommie Sykes lead the team with 14 points and nine rebounds, but it would not be enough to win. With 38 seconds remaining, James Gallman of the Blue Raiders sunk a three pointer to push the score to 55-54 as Middle Tennessee went on to win the game 58-54.
The Warhawks then headed to Western Kentucky to face the Hilltoppers looking for a win, but it was not to be. The Hilltoppers used a strong first-half performance including a 14-0 run to take a lead of 43-28 into the break. The Warhawks could not overcome the deficit and the final score was 81-61.
Junior guard Fred Brown led the Warhawks in scoring with 16 points, and seniors Lawrence Gilbert and Tommie Sykes also managed to score in double digits. The Warhawks will try to get back in the win column this Thursday as they face the Arkansas State Red Wolves at home inside Fant- Ewing Coliseum.
