Monica Bontty, a history professor at ULM , who is also an Egyptologist, has hopes on starting a new organization, The Dead Language Society.
Melinda Johnson, a Spanish major from Bossier City, was selected president of the new club.
“The Dead Language Society is hoping to be an organization that studies and appreciates dead languages and the people that spoke them,” said Johnson.
The goal of the society is to get a better understanding of dead languages, including learning how they were formed, how they died and what contributions they made to modern language.
The club will focus on ancient Egyptian, Coptic and Latin.
The idea for the club has been around for a while but Johnson and Bontty plan on making it a reality this semester.
An interest meeting will be conducted as soon as the organization becomes approved.
