Students took a trip back in time with a retro-themed Spring Fever all last week. From ‘90s skate night to a 2000s night trivia game, Warhawks experienced the fun of different decades.
Hosted by Campus Activities Board, Spring Fever is a week full of fun, free activities, giveaways and events for students to enjoy. Each year, CAB centers Spring Fever Week around a specific theme with this year’s being “Ace Thru the Decades.” Each day, different RSOs hosted luncheons and giveaways around campus.
Marketing Club Treasurer Kadie Gilly expressed her excitement getting to bring something fun to the student body.
“I enjoy participating in Muffins with Marketing every year because you get to interact with students,” Gilly said. “I’m thankful that Spring Fever Week gives us this opportunity.”
Last Monday, a 2000s trivia game put students’ Y2K knowledge to the test. With most being born in that decade, students had to think back to their childhood for clues to questions. The ULM cheerleaders and Hawkline also presented their award-winning routine at a showoff in Fant-Ewing for all to see.
The NAACP hosted a boot-scootin’ Zydeco night last Tuesday. Warhawks line danced and do-si-doed through the night.
Students skated and boogied at the ‘70s skate night last Wednesday at Skatetown Monroe. The next day, the ULM Waterski team put on a spectacular showcase, flying across the waters of the Bayou Desiard.
Finally, the big “Nothing but ‘80s” seafood boil wrapped up Spring Fever week with the biggest celebration yet on Friday afternoon. A water slide, a snow cone machine and a DJ turned Bayou Park into a retro party space.
Freshman biology major Gabriel Stephan enjoyed participating in the lunch social events throughout the week most of all.
“I loved going with my friends to the CAB umbrella giveaway,” Stephan said. “I ate the chicken wings, and the sauce was super awesome. I even put my name in the KXUL record giveaway drawing.”
Despite the rain and tornado warnings midweek, students committed to participating in as much of Spring Fever as possible. CAB advisor Sidney Jones shared his thoughts on the success of the week regardless of weather.
“I think the resilience of the student body was really the highlight of spring fever,” Jones said. “CAB and other RSO’s quickly adapted and were still able to provide events to the students. The students who still came out to the events also shows how strong and energetic the student body can be.”
