From start to finish, the Warhawks dominated in their Week 2 matchup, securing a win over the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) 32-6.
This victory was particularly special for ULM’s first-year head coach, Bryant Vincent, who defeated his former team. Vincent was UAB’s interim head coach in 2022, leading the Blazers to a victory in the Bahamas Bowl.
With this win, the Warhawks reached the 30-point mark for the second straight game this season.
ULM’s third meeting against UAB (1-1) turned out to be a frustrating game for the Blazers. ULM held the team to six points from two field goals throughout the game.
Warhawks’ specialist Max Larson put ULM on the board with a 26-yard field goal with 9 minutes left in the first quarter. The Blazers quickly responded with a field goal, tying the score at 3-3 by the end of the quarter.
Freshman Ahmad Hardy’s 16-yard touchdown run gave ULM an early lead in the second quarter. Larson followed up with a successful extra point, extending the Warhawks’ lead to 10-3. UAB’s Jonah Delange kicked another field goal to narrow the gap, but Larson responded with a second field goal before the end of the half.
Junior Billy Pullen halted the attack with a clean tackle against UAB’s offense, which resulted in two points on a safety. Following the interception on safety, ULM pushed for another offense, which resulted in a touchdown by Hunter Herring.
In the fourth quarter, ULM capped off the game with their third touchdown and third field goal. The Blazers’ offense struggled throughout the game, with the Warhawks’ defense shutting them down completely and preventing them from scoring a single touchdown.
Reflecting on the game, Vincent shared his perspective on ULM’s victory over his former team.
“We played this game with purpose and passion, and it just went mint,” Vincent said.
The win served as a gift to fans and preparation for the players ahead of ULM’s matchup against the Texas Longhorns (2-0) on Sept. 21.
