Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice — say his name three times, and a sequel will appear in theaters. On Sept. 6, the comedy horror film “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” arrived right on time to ride the Soul Train to the big screen.
Years have passed since Lydia Deetz escaped from the demon Beetlejuice’s grubby hands. Now, Lydia stars on a successful television show and raises her teenage daughter, Astrid. However, a tragedy brings the mother-daughter duo back home to Winter River, where the mischievous demon is begging to be let out once more.
Tim Burton’s original “Beetlejuice” depicted the afterlife as an incompetent bureaucracy overrun with the gruesome portrayals of the undead. While the system seemed unclear in the first movie, the satisfying effects, along with the use of puppetry and prosthetics, brought to life an experience exclusive to a Tim Burton film.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” encapsulates Tim Burton’s over-the-top style and keeps audiences entertained, although thoroughly disgusted, by his ingenious paranormal world. The movie gives viewers Beetlejuice’s ghostly chaos and Lydia’s edgy, goth-girl chic right from the beginning.
In fact, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” conjures up the original mayhem-causing ghost and the moody teenager from the 1988 version of “Beetlejuice.”
The reappearance of Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz came as a welcoming shock to audiences. The return of the original cast brought viewers back to their seats 36 years ago, bringing new information to the table that helped clear up some old theories.
Fresh from the grave, Jenna Ortega joins the cast as Astrid Deetz. The scream queen played Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series and Tara Carpenter in the most recent installments of the “Scream” franchise. Ortega has a lot of experience acting in horror movies. Her previous experience, combined with the other well-known cast members, confirmed that the acting in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” was going to be amazing.
Leave the dullness of life and run to the nearest theater for the colorful “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” — just remember to say “home” three times when the movie finishes!
