“Hawks!” echoed through Strauss Hall during the hours students typically spend studying. Over 60 students attended the Honors Program’s bingo night for the chance at prizes or to have fun with a couple of friends.
This bingo night included some Warhawk twists. Certain rounds required participants to make shapes, such as a plus sign or an X, while others stuck to the normal rules. The fortunate few with completed cards shouted “hawks” to announce their win.
One of the winners, sophomore social work major Lexi Castle, described her experience at the event.
“I just thought it would be fun to participate. I went in not expecting to win at all because I knew how many people there were, so I was shocked to win,” Castle said.
Though only a few participants won, the atmosphere remained upbeat. Sophomore computer science major Aiden Gager talked about student’s reactions to the event.
“The thing that stuck out to me the most was the people that attended. Everyone was very lively and fun throughout the entire event,” Gager said.
Students were on the edge of their seats, eager to hear what number would be called next. Others jokingly stewed over their unlucky cards.
Sophomore accounting major Dalton Knighten explained why he enjoyed attending bingo night.
“I feel like the atmosphere wasn’t only engaging but also very welcoming,” Knighten said. “Bingo night seemed to bring a stress-free and positive atmosphere, as well as a good break from a time when most students were worrying about their first exam of the year.”
The Honors Program plans to offer students a break from studying with upcoming events, such as trivia night, karaoke night, and trunk or treat.
