The ULM men’s golf team tied with North Alabama at the 2024 Graeme McDowell Invitational with a score of 30-under (834) on Sept. 24.
“North Alabama gave us the most fight all week. There [sic] are a really strong team with a lot of depth in their squad,” senior Rory Milne said. “Definitely looking forward to more battles with them throughout the course of the season.”
Sophomore Louis Anceaux made history for ULM with a record-setting 9-under round, showcasing his skill. The Sun Belt named him Men’s Golfer of the Week.
“It’s really incredible. That’s something very nice to have your name on the program’s record,” Anceaux said.
Milne opened with a 4-under 68, giving ULM a strong start on the first day. Senior Theis Poulsen followed suit with his own 68. Their solid performance positioned ULM well for the rest of the tournament.
Anceaux’s score of 63 (-9), featuring eight birdies and an eagle, dominated the second round. His pivotal round greatly boosted the Warhawks, while Poulsen remained steady with another 68. Senior Javier Balbastre climbed the leaderboard significantly, scoring 68 (-4).
Anceaux shared his thoughts on handling the attention while staying focused on the rest of the tournament.
“It was actually a big talk because everyone was congratulating me. But I knew we still had a day left for the event. The tough part was to do the same thing the next day,” Anceaux said.
On the final day, ULM finished the tournament with steady play across the board. Poulsen closed out with a 69 (-3), securing a top-ten finish. Milne carded two even-par rounds to remain consistent.
“On the last day, I was not doing my best game. But I looked up and saw the guys, but I looked up in front of me playing well,” Anceaux said. “It gave me a lot of energy to finish well from my side.”
Milne noted the importance of keeping their momentum going.
“I think the big thing for us now is trying to ride the momentum for the next couple of weeks to finish the fall as best we can,” Milne said.
