Homecoming week has the Warhawks going full throttle, with students gathering at the pep rally. The energy was still high from the parade, with students loudly supporting the football team for its Saturday match against Southern Miss.
The crowds packed together with energy and all soaked in what the week had to offer.
Hawkline danced to songs such as “They Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar and “Industry Baby” by Lil Nas X. The music throughout the venue stayed in a 2016-2018 vibe. “Yeah!” by Usher got the crowd riled up for another round of dancing.
Ahmaad Solmone, director of orientation programs and special events, described the pep rally group.
“If you look around the grove right now, there are a lot of alumni here, current students, and spirit groups. There’s a lot of fun and spirit happening right now,” Salome said. “Homecoming is like a chance for everyone to come back, see their old friends and have a wonderful time on the bayou.”
The freshman court consisted of maids Shelby Weaver and Anna Claire Robinson and beau Brooks Boudreaux.
The sophomore court presented maids, Kelly Lohman and Kayden Wilson, with beaus Drake Prunty and Ivan James.
For some people, this Homecoming Week is their first time experiencing this excitement. Sophomore Homecoming court representative and pre-radiology tech major Drake Prunty spoke on his new Homecoming experiences.
“I’ve never been in a parade before, so I can’t lie; I was having fun,” Prunty said. “I might have hit a few people with some candy, I do apologize to those people.”
The junior court saw maids, Haley Hoover and Lizzy Moon. They elected beaus Ethan Miller and Ashon Fields.
The senior court announced maids, Maddy Griep and Jaci Ervin, with beaus Landon Trahan and Beau Benoit.
The pep rally had students come for reasons ranging from wanting to show support to friends or the football team to participate in Homecoming Week’s enthusiasm.
Senior biology pre-med major Alyssa Lamm explained why she attended the rally.
“I was super excited because it’s Homecoming,” Lamm said. “It’s been a good week all week, and my best friend is the Homecoming queen.”
After a much-too-short hour and a half, the rally ended. Students trickled out, whether to prepare for the football game or to tuck in for an 8:00 a.m. the next day. Court members left with a larger group than they entered, basking in their newfound fame.
As Homecoming Week ended, students left the Grove with memories that will last a lifetime.
