Large retailers like Walmart and Target make finding trendy clothes easy. However, if you have a penchant for retro fashion, you might be at a loss. Look no further than The Good Daze in West Monroe.
Founders Harltey Arendsen and Jackie Murphy built the shop in Antique Alley in 2022. After Murphy left to pursue another career, Arendsen became the sole owner. Driven by her love for vintage, she started selling apparel under the name “HartForStyle” at sixteen. Arendsen chose to follow her entrepreneurial dreams instead of enrolling in college.
With a storefront adorned with colorful paint and styled mannequins, The Good Daze attracts both tourists and locals. Customers, such as junior communications major Sam Blue, rave about its friendly staff and unique fashion.
“I shop there because I love everything they sell, and the employees are such great people to deal with,” Blue said. “They give vintage clothes a new life, and it is a much more sustainable way to shop… They try to locally source their goods. The Good Daze is more than vintage clothes; it is the curation of all the trendy and fun local businesses that make their store unique.”
The Good Daze specializes in vintage apparel, from vinyl record claw clips to leather jackets. Arendsen handpicks most of the merchandise and collaborates with other local businesses to offer a variety of items. Beyond vintage clothes and confections, the shop features various scented products,[ES1] [RW2] including soap bars from Jubilant Soapsetions. The Good Daze offers services such as styling for antique clothes and custom hat-designing parties, both of which can be scheduled on their website.
Shopping can be challenging amidst work, school and other obligations, but The Good Daze hopes customers have enough time to shop with its store hours—Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
If costs are more of a concern than hours, you will be pleased to know that Arendsen frequently runs deals, especially during the holidays. In celebration of Halloween, the shop gave multiple deals and discounts. Future ones are always mentioned on its Facebook page, The Good Daze, with some discounts only being 24 hours. Check often!
On Oct. 26, The Good Daze partnered with Lulu of “Simply Sweet” to introduce baked sweet treats to customers.
“Buying merchandise goes a long way,” Arendsen said when asked how to support small businesses. “Sometimes support is as simple as sharing a post or following us on social media.
You can also show your support for The Good Daze by attending local events, such as the maximalist mirror workshops or art crawl.
