Dating back to 2006, the annual art sale allows any student, alumni, faculty or staff member an opportunity to sell handmade items.
This year, the sale will begin Dec. 4 and last through Dec. 7 in 213 Bry Hall. From Monday through Friday, the hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Bry Hall will be open on Saturday and Sunday, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Junior toxicology major Brooke Barrett mentions her excitment for the art sale.
“I am most excited to see all of the creative pieces that the students made,” Barrett said. “It is nice to be able to appreciate what my peers are capable of producing.”
Drawings, prints, knitting projects and crotchet are just a few of the items sold at the fundraiser.
Hosted by ULM’s Art Program and the School of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA), the event serves as a major fundraiser for the Kappa Pi Honorary Art Society.
ULM’s Delta Alpha Chapter of Kappa Pi intends to focus on helping students gain connections within the art community. The art sale is one of many events used to support student artists.
Senior pre-pharmacy major Andrea Chrisulis discusses why the student art sale is important.
“It is a great opportunity for faculty, students and alumni to express themselves, the things they are afraid to or cannot say, through their art for others to see and possibly relate to,” Chrisulis said.
Artists mostly painted either self-portraits or scenes of life. Each artist added identifying features that made their work stand out from others.
Whether bright and cheery, hyper-realistic or made from layers of dots, each art piece had its own sense of self that connects it to its maker.
