Over winter break, ULM women’s basketball (7-11 overall; 3-4 SBC) competed in nearly a dozen games.
On Dec. 11, the Warhawks faced the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on the road and suffered a 37-97 loss.
The Warhawks returned home and played Mississippi State on Dec. 17. The match proved to be a dogfight as ULM maintained a close score and battled Mississippi State point for point. The matchup ended with the Warhawks falling short 70-78.
The following week, the Warhawks traveled to New Orleans to participate in the Tulane Holiday Tournament on Dec. 20-21.
On Dec. 20, ULM faced the Central Arkansas Bears. The score remained tight during the first two quarters, but the Warhawks switched gears and dominated the remainder of the game. ULM defeated Central Arkansas with a final score of 65-49.
Redshirt junior guard Meloney Thames led the team with 17 points and 5 assists.
Senior forward Sakyia White took charge with 9 rebounds.
On Dec. 21, ULM battled Tulane in a close match. The lead jumped from team to team throughout the game, but the Green Wave managed to snag a 68-63 win to close the tournament. Additionally, ULM played on the road for the last match of 2024 against Coastal Carolina on Dec. 29. The Warhawks fell a narrow 61-63 to the Chanticleers.
The Warhawks hosted a series of home games, kicking off the new year.
On Jan. 2, the Warhawks welcomed Georgia Southern and secured a win with a final score of 83-67.
Thames led the team in scoring with 22 points, while senior guard Jakayla Johnson made a statement with 12 rebounds.
Senior guard Nya Valentine took charge with 6 assists. During the final weeks of the break, the Warhawks played both Southern Mississippi and Arkansas State twice.
The first meet-up between ULM and Southern Miss was at home on Jan. 9, with the Warhawks snagging an 84-75 win over the Golden Eagles.
The Warhawks then faced the Red Wolves on Jan. 11 in a close battle that resulted in the Red Wolves pulling out a 75-70 win over the Warhawks.
The second go-round for ULM versus Southern Miss took place on Jan.16. This time, the Warhawks secured another win with a final score of 67-55.
Thames took charge as the leader, scoring 20 points and 9 rebounds.
Senior guard Cianté Downs led with 6 assists.
On Jan. 18, ULM continued on the road for the second meet-up against Arkansas State. The Warhawks struggled to keep up with the Red Wolves offense and eventually fell 43-71.
Due to harsh road conditions from the most recent winter event, the Jan. 22 match between ULM and South Alabama will be played on Jan. 30.
