Looking for a way to get active? The 2025 spring intramural season is here and in action. This season, intramurals offer over 10 events for Warhawks.
The big games of the season are the leagues. Students can join basketball and softball leagues, which allow them to compete in bracket play instead of randomly selected matches.
The basketball league will wind down soon, with 15 men’s and five women’s teams battling weekly until the playoffs. The first round of the playoffs and quarterfinals are set for Feb. 12, followed by the semifinals and championship game on Feb. 17. Among the men’s teams are “The Old Timers,” “IV Leaguers,” and “The Last Picks.” On the women’s side are the “Dunkin’ Donuts,” “UnderDogz,” “Bench Buddies,” “Ballerz,” and “Sky’s Team.” Kappa Sigma, PIKE, and Delta Sigma Phi represent Greek Life.
The softball league will begin after basketball ends. Registration for men, women, and co-ed teams is ongoing. The season runs for about three weeks from Mar. 5-29. Currently, only the GO-gettas and Kappa Sigma A+ have signed up. Be sure to gather your teammates and register by Feb. 27 to join the fun.
The Activity Center will host a captain’s meeting on Feb. 29 to provide information on specific rules and the schedule.
If bigger sports are not of interest to you, a variety of tournaments will occur throughout the next three months. The dodgeball tournament will be on Feb. 25, and the wiffleball tournament will take place on Feb. 26. The March Madness Pick’em will take place from Mar. 12-15, and the Home Run Derby/SB Skills competition will close out the month. Lastly, the walleyball tournament will take place on Apr. 2, tennis singles on Apr. 15, and cornhole on Apr. 16.
If you are unsure about playing, ULM Recreation staff member Taegen Thompson believes that participating in intramurals can be an excellent way to get out of your comfort zone.
“It is more than just playing sports,” Thompson said. “It is about being a part of something and expanding your horizons. You don’t have to have much experience to play the game and enjoy the season.”
