Coming off a series loss away at James Madison, ULM baseball (9-11) (1-2) traveled to Ruston to face off against the LA Tech Bulldogs (12-9). Unfortunately, ULM could not pull through and lost 6-2.
This matchup marks the 36th time since 2001 that ULM baseball matched up with LA Tech. Historically, the program has not been that successful against the rival from down I-20. Going 9-27 since 2001, ULM is currently on a four-game losing streak against the Bulldogs and has not won against them since 2023.
In the first four innings, though freshman pitcher Brennan Eager gave up a combined six runs, he recovered with three strikeouts. ULM did not score any runs but managed to secure three hits throughout those innings.
During the fifth, freshman Zach White and junior Kade Dupont scored ULM’s only two runs of the game. The defenders also did some work, catching two fly balls and a groundout.
The rest of the game was unremarkable. While senior Michelle Arzberger did hit a single, there were no other hits. Defensively, ULM did all they could to set up a rally, holding the Bulldogs to six runs, but the offense could not get hot again. While in a slump, senior Zach Shaw also managed to get a strikeout.
Despite the loss, some Warhawks put up good stats. Junior Bryce Blaser went two for four on the plate with a run batted in.
Senior Michelle Arzberger totaled two hits.
Freshman Brennan Eager totaled five strikeouts in four innings.
The Warhawks return to the Lou on Friday, March 21, to start a series against conference opponent Southern Miss.
