As of April, developers announced almost 500 games hitting stores in 2025. While many companies will release more games by the end of the year, five games in particular stood out to me.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
The third game in the Hyrule Warriors series, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, will be released in Winter 2025. This hack-and-slash game follows Princess Zelda along her time-travel adventure in the ancient past of Hyrule. Nintendo previewed little gameplay during its announcement in the April Nintendo Direct, which left room for speculation and increased anticipation for the game. Because Age of Imprisonment is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, its price is set between $80 and $90 for a digital or physical copy.
Grand Theft Auto 6
By far one of the most anticipated games of 2025, Rockstar announced the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 to be in late 2025 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Because Rockstar delayed the game multiple times, fans feared developers secretly pushed the release date back to 2026. Only one official trailer released in December 2023, and Rockstar declined to comment on any leaks or updates, leaving fans even more worried about the release. GTA 6 is still a game that almost every gamer is looking forward to, despite all of the speculation and uncertainty.
Catly
During The Game Awards 2024, indie developer team SuperAuthenti showcased the official trailer for Catly. In this open-world adventure game, the player can adopt cats around an island and create a beautiful flower farm. The game faced a lot of backlash due to the abnormally high-quality graphics from a small company, but a SuperAuthenti representative denied any connection to AI programs. Despite the minor controversy, this cute cat game excited many cozy gamers looking forward to its Steam release in mid-2025.
Deltarune Chapters 1-4
Toby Fox announced the release date of Deltarune Chapters 1-4, June 5, 2025, on his official website, toby.fangamer.com. Fox and his development team originally released the role-playing game chapter by chapter, with the first chapter released in 2018 and the second in 2021. However, he announced that the game will have a full release this year, priced at $25 on consoles and PCs, with any additional chapters downloaded for free as updates.
Little Nightmares 3
Set to release in 2025, Little Nightmares 3, is a puzzle horror game that follows two new characters, Low and Alone, as they navigate through the Nowhere place. The game is single-player and multiplayer, a feature not added in the previous games. Fans speculate that the change in ownership contributed to the game having a different feel than the earlier games but are still excited for its release.
