Hosting their only home meet of the season, ULM track and field did not disappoint at the Warhawk Classic, collecting 13 first place finishes over two days before storms cut the event short.
The event, held at Groseclose Track on April 4-5, gave the Warhawks a rare chance to compete on familiar ground, which they took full advantage of.
Day one featured seven golds for ULM. In the field events, senior Savanna Lawson led with a 5.98 m long jump win, while junior Sydney Lake (54.16 m) and freshman Benedikt Schweizer (58.62 m) led the hammer throw.
On the track, junior Anna Naff won the women’s 1500 m (4:49.49), resulting in a sweep for the Warhawks. Both senior Ansley Long and sophomore Chase Gunn claimed victories in the 3000 m steeplechase. Freshman Gabriella Delgado capped off the day with a win in the 5000 m.
Six more first-place finishes followed on day two before unfavorable weather ended the meet early. Lawson earned her second win of the weekend in the javelin (35.64 m), freshman Mikun Adeniran threw a personal best 51.58 m in the discus and sophomore Cameron Mount took the pole vault with a personal best of 3.35 m. Freshman Cora Burger added a win in the triple jump (11.50 m), while the men’s 4×100 m relay team-comprised of senior Devin Bilbo, freshman Seneca Portlock, junior Santana Richardson and freshman Bradley Ricardi-won with a time of 41.52.
Bilbo also topped the 110 m hurdles in 14.28 seconds.
With standout performances across both days and multiple top three finishes in nearly every event, the Warhawks made sure their opportunity to compete at home counted.
The Warhawks now look ahead to a bigger stage at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on April 11. With momentum building and standout, performances across track and field, ULM looks to continue this winning spirit in a competitive weekend against top-tier programs.
