With head coaches already announced for men’s and women’s basketball this season, there is one more new addition to ULM’s sports program. Martin Kolman, a former world champion, is returning to the bayou as the new head coach of the ULM water ski team. Kolman won multiple titles as a student-athlete and now brings international experience back to one of ULM’s most decorated programs.
From 2012 to 2017, Kolman competed for ULM and won five national championships. He later won the 2019 International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation Men’s Overall title, as well as Overall Champion honors in 2014 and 2021.
Recently, he placed fourth overall at the 2024 Fluid Cup in Florida, showcasing that he can still compete. Kolman took on the role of head coach for Chilean Olympic Committee’s water ski team in 2019. Beyond coaching, he currently serves as the chairman of IWWF Athlete Commission.
Kolman shared his thoughts about returning to ULM as head coach.
“I am very excited to be the new coach of the ULM water ski team,” said Kolman. “I believe that I can lead the team to a bright future and bring the 30th national championship to Monroe, La.
The Water Ski Booster Club and ULM leaders have supported Kolman’s return. ULM Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Valerie Fields, said Kolman’s leadership and passion will help the team aim for new championships. Booster Club President Perry Cox said the organization looks forward to supporting Kolman as he works to build the next generation of Warhawks skiers.
Kolman will officially begin his role in September 2025. Until then, he plans to work with current team members and staff as he transitions into the position. With Kolman leading the way, ULM looks to capture its 30th national championship and continue its tradition of excellence.
