ULM’s Campus Activities Board upholds the heartwarming traditions that we all know and love—or will know and love soon—such as Midnight Breakfast during finals week, Homecoming Week, Week of Welcome, Spring Fever, Holidays at ULM and more. A small fee added to every student’s bill fuels this perpetual machine to keep the fun going each year. CAB specializes in providing relief and a platform for memories, no matter where you are on your journey on the bayou.
As the 2024–2025 school year comes to an end, we are left with two semesters of fun to unpack. Beau Benoit, the current president of the Campus Activities Board, provided insight on the year from an internal perspective. The president of CAB mediates between the campus body, the student members—or “cabbies”—and the university committee. It is a role that calls for a leader with heart, courage, and reasoning—all of which Beau Benoit exudes with class.
“This year of CAB brought change within the subtleties,” Benoit said. “If we gave the same CAB ink pens and stress balls, they would eventually end up on a shelf collecting dust.”
Changes ranged from self-branded souvenirs to customizable trinkets, such as the hurricane cups for 2025’s Casino Night and the surfboards for Spring Fever, shaking up the way CAB configured giveaways. He and his team spent the 2024–2025 catalog year finding ways to reduce monotony within long-standing traditions, adding meaningful mementos that Warhawks connect to—while still paying homage to previous years.
The most impactful event of the year was the Spring Fever concert on April 8, featuring BigXThaPlug, thanks to its huge community turnout and ticket sales. ULM’s Got Talent broke the record for the most auditions to date, and the Miss ULM Pageant graced the stage with beauty and elegance as always. CAB orchestrates all of these events. Holidays at ULM are a beloved tradition that many students take advantage of. Free food, drinks, giveaways, networking and cheer fill Scott Plaza around late November or early December each year, and CAB would love to see more of the Monroe community indulge in the festivities.
Benoit stayed true to the teachings of his mentors and former CAB presidents while also bringing his own exuberance into the mix. He ensured CAB bonded like a family, with every member feeling seen and heard. Working with his officers, he focused on what students would enjoy—at a price the organization and university could afford. Strategies such as block booking, shopping locally and collaborating with nearby institutions such as Louisiana Tech, Grambling State University and Louisiana Delta Community College helped cut costs. Beau openly encourages more registered student organizations (RSOs) to participate in the RSO Scholarships that CAB hosts on a first-come, first-served basis every semester.
CAB at ULM is always accepting applications and welcomes everyone with open arms. Volunteers are greatly appreciated. CAB monitors its member intake each semester to ensure equal opportunities for all students—so if you want to get involved, they have got you covered.
All in all, CAB gives back to the student body, student organizations and the Monroe community. CAB is there for you when you need a brain break, want to meet new friends or just need a snack restock for your dorm. From your first step on campus to your last on the bayou, CAB will host events for you. Be encouraged to interact with its members and learn more about our campus-wide treasure: the Campus Activities Board.
