The order for registration for Fall 2011 classes is different from previous semesters.
No longer are freshmen the last to sign up for their fall courses, in fact, they’re the fourth group to get to sign up. The juniors are fifth, and the sophomores are sixth.
Some students, like sophomore education major Katie Ross from Denham Springs, are glad that they are in the special groups, who get to sign up first.
“I find that being in a specialty group helps me because I can get the classes I want first without worrying that the class will be full before I can register.”
If she was not part of the Honors Program, Ross would have drawn the short straw and been one of the last students to register as a sophomore.
When asked about why there was a change in the order, Kimberly Olney, a freshman atmospheric science major also from Denham Springs, said, “I think they put the freshmen before the juniors and sophomores so they have a chance to get into the classes they need.”

The freshman get to register first so that they won’t get frustrated about not getting into the classes they want. The school is trying to keep kids in college and that is one of the ways they believe will help students stay in school. I think that registration should go from upperclassmen to lowerclassmen because the upperclassmen are almost done so they have less to go back and take a class that they still don’t have.

Really? Freshmen have registered before Juniors and Sophomores for at least 2 semesters. Look at the Fall 2010 schedule, for example.
Special Groups – Thursday, April 15-16
Graduates, Seniors and Professional Pharmacy – Monday, April 19
Freshmen – Tuesday, April 20
Juniors – Wednesday, April 21
Sophomores – Thursday, April 22
