The ULM Honors Program scored two awards, Highest Achievement and Outstanding New Program, in Philadelphia for the Pathways Conference.
According to the ULM Honors Program website, it is a unique program that seeks intellectually curious students who desire to challenge themselves with new ideas and to work with like-minded students. The Honors Program welcomes all majors and offers various options within the degree. While in the program, faculty members expose Honors students to more in- depth topics and work closely with them. Other special benefits include priority registration and an exclusive honors lounge.
Program Director Joshua Stockley discusses the two awards the program won.
“The first award was for Highest Engagement. This award recognizes programs that have achieved a high level of engagement among its students. The FLIGHT program achieved 100% engagement in its first semester,” Stockley said. “The Honors FLIGHT Program received a second award for Outstanding New Program. This award recognizes new programs that launched in the past academic year and made a significant impact on student engagement.”
ULM is a relatively small school in the corner of Louisiana, so being recognized nationally for its student engagement is a “testament to the spirit of collaboration,” as Stockley put it. He also believes these awards validate the honor students’ feelings of belonging to a successful academic program.
Vice President of the Honors Program, Amaya West, considers how member participation helped ULM win two awards.
“The engagement of our program students on suitable is the reason we were able to receive these awards,” West said.
West went on to state that these awards reflect the high involvement of the honor students.
“These awards are validation of our hard work as students in the program under the leadership of our incredible director, Dr. Joshua Stockley. They are an amazing depiction of what we are accomplishing here at ULM, and hopefully these awards will stand out to potential Honor students and encourage future Warhawks to get involved.”
