In June 2022, Prime Video adapted Jenny Han’s popular book series The Summer I Turned Pretty into a television show. The story follows Isabel “Belly” Conklin, played by Lola Tung, as she finds herself in a love triangle with brothers Conrad (Chris Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno). Season three began streaming July 16, with new episodes released every Wednesday until Sept. 17.
The show has become a drama-filled staple of summer TV, blending romance, heartbreak, and a standout soundtrack. Season three’s music featured heavy hitters like Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, leaving fans wondering just how big the budget was.
Season three picks up after a timeskip of four years, with the previous season ending with Jeremiah and Belly getting together, and Conrad getting into Stanford, causing him to move away.
Fans continue to take sides in the love triangle, passionately arguing for Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah.
“Jeremiah was a player in the first season, but he was what Belly needed at the time,” said sophomore criminal justice major Gloria McNease.
Some fans, however, have changed their minds over time.
“I was Team Jeremiah at first, but now I’m Team Conrad all the way,” freshman Maggie Sconza said. “I’m actually Team ‘Conrad get away from everybody and find someone new.’”
The show’s reach has expanded well beyond its intended audience. Fans now range all the way from high schoolers to adults who said goodbye to their teenage years long ago.
“I would recommend it to anyone I meet, it’s such a good show,” said freshman Claire Varnado.
Many students say they were first drawn to the show because of its soundtrack. For Swifties especially, season two was hard to miss in 2023 when Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” dominated social media. Whether you’re watching with friends, the series offers a story worth diving into – one that balances love, grief, and the longing for what’s been lost.
