Throughout the Fall 2025 semester, the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) distributed students’ refunds. While most students received their payments, a few found their transactions vacant because of unsatisfied requirements.
ULM’s Financial Aid Associate Director of Customer Service, Erica Hopko, shares her insight on this matter. Hopko explains that if a “student has unsatisfied requirements that still need to be met or were not met in time for disbursement,” that is one of the main causes for refund complications.
Hopko states that refunds are “all dependent on enrollment.” Elaborating further on the matter, she strongly encourages students to attend their classes, stating that a student’s enrolment status and attendance can also cause delays in receiving their refunds
“Students must be attending, not just enrolled in full time hours,” Hopko said. “They must be attending, not just enrolled in half time hours… Until that requirement is met, their aid cannot 100% disburse for a refund.”
Sophomore business management major Jayden Roe shares how the issues involving refunds have impacted him and those in his life. Roe expresses that while he has received his refunds, he does have issues with his refunds “coming in late.”
When asked further about the situation, Roe acknowledged that the delayed arrival of his refunds has hindered his ability to manage his daily expenses and purchase materials needed for his classes. As of this article’s publication, Roe reported that his brother, sophomore business major Jorden Roe, has only received a partial amount of his initial refund.
Sophomore psychology major Eileen Floris shared her empathy for students struggling during this time. Floris acknowledged that without the assistance of her sister, she might have encountered similar issues. Reflecting on her experiences as a first-year student, Floris found difficulties in navigating the ULM’s payment system through its website.
“I had to get help from my sister,” Floris said. “I hate how they don’t give much information about that.”
As students await updates on their accounts, Hopko strongly encourages them to contact Student Account Services with any questions. Whether it is about fees or payments, the staff are available to assist students during this time of uncertainty.
