Senior political science major Azlyn Isaac recently revived the ULM chapter of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and announced herself as the president.
TPUSA is an American nonprofit that advocates for conservative values on college campuses. Founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk and Bill Montgomery, it has built a network of 850 student chapters to spread its principles and encourage student engagement.
As a Republican interested in politics, Isaac felt she was the ideal candidate to bring back ULM’s TPUSA chapter. Her motivation stemmed from her belief that after Kirk’s death, a revival would occur; soon after, an influx of people began involvement with TPUSA.
New members, such as junior pre-pharmacy major Ryan Pirkey, were attracted to the fact that this will bring together a like-minded community within ULM.
“I think just having something like… this organization where people can come together… and have opportunities to talk with each other about these kinds of things are important,” Pirkey said. “I think it’s a good thing to have here.”
The ULM College Democrats declined to comment when approached for their thoughts on TPUSA.
Expecting no setbacks, Isaac is very optimistic and passionate about getting the chapter up and running for the students.
“We’ve experienced a lot of support for our chapter,” Isaac said, “From the community, from students, from faculty who have reached out to me.”
