Every other month, local galleries open their doors for an evening of art, live music, food and community. The Art Crawl creates a casual space where visitors can chat with artists and walk from one venue to another.
As visitors walk and explore the alley, the atmosphere feels comfortable, welcoming and calming.
“I have been at this for three years and I feel so blessed every time I am able to enter because I still love what I do,” Cathy Lowery, a local artist, said.
As Lowery continues, she explains that she’s been chosen to paint for Northeast Louisiana’s Art Council’s “Water Ways” show and even had River Oaks Square Arts Council in Alexandria ask for specific pieces from her, but she always comes back to first love.
Walking around the Crawl, visitors might notice families with their children, couples just starting out, women who have been friends for years and more. This event invites people of every culture, religion and orientation to enjoy creativity, and even make it themselves.
“That is what keeps me coming back,” Lowery said. “I love to see the warm smiles and diversity that everyone has to offer.”
In the Courtyard Galerie, a lovely lady by the name of Lilia Dawn Jackson shared her thoughts on the Crawl.
“It makes my soul so happy,” Jackson said. “I think the dynamic of the event is truly something to appreciate.” Jackson continues by saying that the atmosphere is beautiful, allowing so many different perspectives to mix and match; leaving refreshed is almost a guarantee.
For Monroe and West Monroe, the Art Crawl is more than a night of creativity: it is a reminder of how art can bring people together. Whether someone comes to admire the paintings, listen to live music, or simply enjoy the company, there’s something about the Crawl that makes everyone feel part of the community.
The next Crawl will take place Dec. 4, and it promises to be another evening full of color, music and connection.
