The ULM football team came home Oct. 18, to take on Troy, and after a hard fought first half, Troy pulled away to end the game at 37-14 and pushed ULM to a 3-4 overall record.
In the first quarter, the Trojans came out hot, scoring 10 unanswered points on a 20-yard rushing touchdown and a field goal. ULM started a good drive right before the quarter ended and kept everyone on their toes going into the break.
Five second into the second quarter, the Warhawks cashed in on their good drive with a seven-yard passing touchdown from Hunter Herring to Nic Trujillo. On the extra-point attempt, holder Andrew Wells took the snap and ran it into the end zone for a two-point conversion. Later in the quarter, the Trojans completed another long pass for a crowd-popping 60-yard touchdown right before the half. This touchdown and extra point made the score 17-8, Troy, going into halftime.
After the break, there were different agendas for each team. For ULM, the team sought to get the momentum back on their side and crawl back into the game while Troy was aimed to prevent any Warhawk resurgence. The Warhawks looked like they were succeeding in their agenda after a 12-yard passing touchdown from Aidan Armenta to Brandon Buckhaulter to make the score 17-14. Right after the touchdown though, Danny Hagan, a track and field athlete, stepped up to kick the ball due to both Warhawks’ kickers being injured. The kick was missed, and all energy was lost for ULM.
The Warhawks would not end up scoring again and the Trojans continued to add on. After two more fields goals and two more touchdowns, the final score of the game was 37-14.
ULM football will visit Southern Miss on Oct. 25 to try and get back in the win column.
