The Warhawks faced off against Marshall on Oct. 16 and Oct. 17. The results of both games would be 0-3, with the Herd winning both games. The game would feature long streaks of points and sets coming down to the wire.
In set one of game one, the Herd would take a commanding 8-2 early lead. The Warhawks would try to come back, getting the score as close as 15-22. The Herd would go on to score the next three points and end the first set 15-25. The second set went much like the last, with the Herd getting up big on the Warhawks 10-2. ULM would go on a three-score run towards the end of the set, but at last the Herd would end the set 25-11. The last set of game one would be the most competitive, with a score of 25-20. The third set would start with ULM getting a two-score lead. The Warhawks and the Herd would then go point for point until both teams went on multiple point runs. Marshall would end the game on a 6-2 point run.
Kennedy Plummer led the Warhawks in kills with nine in game one. She would have helped in the kills department with Madison Derden getting five and Kenzie Behl getting four. The only ace of the game would go to Morgan Howard, Behl would lead the game in blocks with three and Howard would lead in both assists and digs with 15 and 9, respectively.
In game two of the doubleheader, you would have a set that ends with a two-point difference and multiple runs from both teams. In set one, the game would start close with a score of 4-3, the Warhawks. The Herd would then go on an 8-1 lead, putting them up 11-5. The Warhawks would respond with their own 5-2 point run themselves, putting the score at 10-14. The Warhawks and the Herd would then go back and forth and go on a small points run each. The set would end on an attack error; the score would be 23-25. Set two would be like the sets in game one, with Marshall going up 9-1. The Warhawks would go on a four-point run towards the end of the set, but the Herd would close out the set with a four-point run of their own, winning the set 25-13. The final set would be competitive, with the score being 8-8. Marshall would go on an 8-2 run to end the game 25-17.
The stats leaders in game two would be Derden and Plummer, who both led in kills with ten. In aces, the team would be led by Howard and Plummer, both with one. In blocks, you have Chavon Weaver, who led with two. Howard would also lead in assists with 31, and Briana Raney would lead in digs with 16.
The Warhawks are traveling to San Marcos, Texas to face Texas State in their next doubleheader. The games are on Oct 24. at 6 pm and Oct. 25 at 2 pm.
