Rubio resigns, Stockley gladly accepts new position as leader
Joshua Stockley of the political science department will be the new director of the ULM Honors Program next semester with the resignation of Christian Rubio.
Christian Rubio resigned from ULM to accept a job next year in Boston.
On top of being an Associate Professor of Spanish, Rubio was the director of the ULM Honors Program, a program for intellectually curious students.
Rubio made the decision to leave ULM to be closer to his family in New York City.
Rubio says he has had a wonderful time while teaching here at ULM and has many important memories he has created during his time in Monroe.
“There are so many [favorite memories]. Teaching all my classes will always be the highlight of my days here at ULM… Another memory will be taking ULM students abroad… And finally, LCHC conferences,” Rubio said.
However, Rubio knows that he will be leaving the Honors Program in good hands.
“It was a no brainer to recommend him [Stockley], and I was extremely glad when the Provost chose him.”
Stockley has been interested in working with the Honors Program since his first semester at ULM.
Before coming to Monroe, he was involved in Nicholls State University’s Honors Program.
Currently, Stockley is teaching an honors social science course on politics in film.
“I quickly realized I was teaching a motivated group of students expressing a passion for education, yearning for challenges, and possessing critical thinking skills,” Stockley said.
“I had no idea that not only would I be given an opportunity to serve the Honors Program, but Dr. Richters would select me to lead the Honors Program.”
Students in the Honors Program agree with the choice.
Satish Dahal, a sophomore biology major from Monroe, is going to miss Rubio, but is looking forward to getting to work with Stockley.
“I think he will be cool like Dr. Rubio and make the program more effective,” Dahal said.
