Department honors students and faculty during banquet
Outstanding students, along with faculty members, were recognized at the annual College of Arts and Sciences banquet on April 20.
The dean of the college Jeff Cass walked across the stage in his graduation regalia stating that he wore it simply to show everyone “how cool he looked in them,” but it also helped get the seniors in the graduation spirit.
Each spring semester, faculty and staff of the college are asked to select the top students in each department. The students are then called on stage to receive a certificate of acknowledgement.
Then, the top outstanding seniors of each department are recognized. 17 seniors were selected this year, including: Nicholas Fenner, Charles DeDeaux, Eboni Parker, Brooke Hofstetter, Ashely Crockham, Karen Woolie, Elizabeth Lusk, Matt Street, Christopher Lofton, Josh Albritton, Austin Wise, Alex Temblador, Anna Eley, Heidi Burun, Robert Jones, Kathryn Womble and Samantha Matherne.
Eboni Parker, a communication studies senior from Marthaville, was the 2011 recipient of the Outstanding Senior award in Communication Studies.
“Receiving the Outstanding Senior Award is a tremendous honor for me. When others recognize hard work, it is definitely an awesome feeling,” Parker said.
Along with the recognition of students, Dean Cass also recognized and honored five faculty members that have been hard at work in assuring better education for students at ULM.
“As Dean of the college, I am always delighted to be able to recognize the accomplishments of faculty,” Cass said.
“All of these faculty contribute greatly to the college and, most notably, to the quality of education and lives of our students.”
Each student’s name will be prominently placed upon a plaque, which will hang in Dean Cass’ office.
