Athlete creates new clothing line to show the world his own style
Robert Nelson, a sophomore general studies major, said buying name brand clothes gets boring, so he decided to make his own new clothing line named “Broke Billionaires.” “Broke Billionaires” gives him the ability to sell his own clothing and become a businessman as a student athlete.
Nelson chose “Broke Billionaires” because it caught his attention. “It stood out in a spiritual way, knowing that you could have nothing one day, but if you believe in God and have faith, you could be a billionaire the next day,” said Nelson.
Robert Nelson was the starting cornerback for the Warhawks in the 2010 football season. Longtime friend Tyrone Thomas said Nelson takes his mindset on the football field and applies it to his clothing line.
“Rob does whatever it takes to achieve his goals,” Thomas said.
Nelson says his clothing line reflects his life and everything he’s been through. “I have been through the ups and downs…Having the opportunity to sell clothing where everyone can afford to buy it gives people a chance to know who I am as a person,” said Nelson. “Having a full scholarship to play football in college and to be able to make something of myself in life is what I want. Having my own business helps me respect a lot of things in life even more.”
As an athlete, Nelson plans to take his clothing line as far as he can. In the summer, Nelson plans to work on putting his clothes in stores in his native city of Atlanta, Georgia.
