The ULM women’s soccer team is on the mend as maroon beat gold on Monday. Looking to recover from last season’s record of 2-17-1, the team was divided and went head-to-head in preparation for the up-coming season.
Seeking to bring the ULM athletics its first win of the 2011-12 school year, conditioning isn’t going to be a concern. The summer record-breaking temperatures played a factor in the girls’ health as a virus spread throughout the team during the first week and a half of preseason, but right now all the team is looking to do, is win.
“To get the first win for the University, that’s something that we are fortunate to be set up to do every year, and that’s something that gives us a little extra pride,” Head Coach Stacey Lamb said.
With ten new faces, including eight freshmen, the Warhawks are learning to mesh as a team. Undecided about a starting line-up, Lamb is confident her team will do just fine and said she believes the team will be “fun to watch.”
“We have the ability to score goals this year, she said. We have the ability to shut teams out this year.”
The Warhawks play back-to-back games on the road at Central Arkansas on Friday and Nicholls State on Saturday. They return home Tuesday, Aug. 23 for the home-opener against Northwestern State.
