When I got a meal plan my freshman year, I got 15 meals a week.
In my mind, that meant 15 meals whenever I wanted to use them.
So if I want to come once every hour just to get a drink and blow eight meals in one day, I should be allowed to.
In the mind of the cafeteria though, it is one meal, per meal period.
So if you were to eat at 2 p.m., that counts as your dinner.
This was news to me since my school schedule did not let me eat at lunch time.
Even though they do not put the food out for dinner, and the cafeteria considers 2-4 p.m. “snack time” it counts for my dinner for the day?
You can only guess how shocked I was when I returned at 7:30 p.m. after marching and doing homework to find out that I had to use flex instead of one of my 14 remaining meals.
I think the main thing that aggravated me about the policy is it’s not written anywhere.
Even on their website it says, “Each time you eat in your residential restaurant, one meal is subtracted from your weekly meal balance. “
Emphasis on “weekly.”
Nowhere does it say “once per meal period.”
Of course, how updated can that be when on their meal plan terms page, they talk about changes on Arrow which is no longer in use?
So seriously, I think the policy needs to be changed or put up so people know about it.
Preferably changed because by limiting the usage, you are not giving me what I paid for which was 15 meals a week.
Not 15 meals, once per meal period, which in turn kinda makes it more of a four meals a day maximum.
That is what ruffles my feathers.

I’ve got to agree, that also “ruffles my feathers”. We are in college, not kindergarden. We can decide when we want to eat and how many times in one day that may be, ON OUR OWN. Tommy, I think it’s pitiful that you’re not mature enough to keep up with that kind of thing on your own. Maybe you should just go back to grade school and have your parents give you your lunch money every day befor you catch the bus.
Either change the system, or update and clarify how the meals will be charges and what times.
Great article!

Outdated as the school’s website may be, both in design and content, they do have the laudable job of dictating how we use our money. I, for one, am happy to have someone else decide how and even when to spend my money for me. It’s relieving to know that I don’t have to worry about such pretentious nonsense. It taxes my mind and leaves me awfully exhausted, as I’m sure most persons will agree.

Your saying you prefer when people tell you how to use your money?
Really? That sounds horrible, and also a good way to be ripped off.
You should always be aware of how your spending your money, if you are not able to do that I am unsure how you will survive when you have bills to pay.

We’re talking about your meal plan right now. The campus dictates how you spend your money by forcing you to buy a meal plan (for on campus residents). The LEAST they could do is allow you to spend it how you please or at least inform you of what you’re signing up for.
Mathematically, the meal plan we invest in is supposed to save us money by allowing us to buy items on flex tax-free and letting us eat in the cafeteria at a reduced price. If I can’t use my meal plan how I want to use it, I end up not spending all of the meals that I paid for and I lose money in the process.

I like to think the University is prepping us for communism. Or perhaps alien overlords. It’s hard to tell which at the moment, but boy howdy, you’ll be ready when the time comes thanks to this.

AMEN! I’ve dealt with this for the last 2 years…I hope Aramark reads this and fixes this policy or at least informs the campus about it.
