MONROE, La. – The ULM women’s softball team split the first day of the Mardi Gras Classic tournament, 1-1, on Friday. The first match for the Warhawks started in a see-saw fashion between ULM (1-1) and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (1-1), with five lead changes during the game. The match was extended into the ninth inning, with Kayla Boening scoring the winning run to give the Warhawks the 7-6 decision.
The second game of the day for ULM started in a blowout, but in favor of IUPUI. The Jaguars (2-0) came out with a 7-0 run by the top of the fourth inning, with the Warhawks scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Jaguars then scored two runs to force the mercy rule, giving ULM a split decision for the day.
The Warhawks face off tomorrow against Northwestern State (0-1) at 11 AM, and Southeast Missouri (1-1) at 3 PM. Admission is $10 for the entire day for general public, and free for students with a ULM ID.
