MONROE, La. – With revenge in their eyes, the tennis team looked to get a win on their schedule, and demolished the visiting Broncs by a score of 7-0. Discounting the tough match between Silvia Tumova (ULM) and Malin Anderson (UTPA), the Warhawks thrashed singles competition by a combined score of 60-7. Medy Blankvoort won her singles matches to stretch her undefeated streak to six games on the season, stretching back to the last week of January. The only player to lose a set during the match was Tumova, who fought into three sets during singles play, dropping the first with a score of 5-7, and picked up the final two by scores of 6-2 and 10-4.
In doubles play, the team of Blankvoort and Monica Winkel downed Malin Anderson and Suncica Strkic of UTPA with a score of 8-1, Vivian Polak and Ema Turudija defeated Wanda Beguelin and Dana Nazarova by a score of 8-3, and Sophie Rufyikiri and Tumova defeated the pair of Blanca Izaguirre and Cindy Sands by blanking the duo 8-0.
The Warhawks play in-state opponent Northwestern State University on Wednesday at 2:oo PM in Heard Stadium, then host Sun Belt-foe Arkansas State on Friday, March 2 at 1:00 PM. Admission to the matches is free and open to the public.
