The Conservation Committee of the Garden Club of America recently awarded ULM the “Club Civic Improvement” award. President Nick Bruno accepted the award for ULM, while acknowledging the past contributions of ULM presidents to the current status of the campus.
ULM has not always had such a beautiful campus. The University started a project a little over a decade ago, which has cost over $100 million, all with the aim to make the campus’ appearance better. A notable result of this project is the ULM library.
“I will continue the tradition of beauty on our campus. This award is very humbling,” Bruno said while accepting the award.
Mark Mathewes, a graduate student in communication studies, said “ULM has the uniqueness of having a bayou running through the middle of campus, but lacks other mature landscaping across the rest of campus. The addition of new and remodeled facilities on campus makes it comparable to other small universities in the state.”
ULM is the only university in the nation to have a bayou running through its campus.
Mathewes went on to say that he feels certain parts of the campus lack a decent amount of landscaping, which makes it feel “institutionalized.”
