Thomas Jefferson once said, “I would rather deal with the inconveniences concerning too much liberty than the ones concerning too little.”
When it comes to guns, gun control and the Gun Bill, words cannot express how much I love the right to keep and bear arms.
Gun control is not about guns; it’s about control. I thoroughly believe that if more sane people carried a gun, then the crazies would get off fewer shots.
With stories of college shootings running rampant, I think that if someone wants to bring a gun onto campus for their protection, then that is his or her right.
I don’t think we have to worry about the SUB turning into a saloon from the movie “Tombstone.” I don’t think we have to worry about someone who has gone through the legal process of obtaining a concealed-carry permit all of a sudden going crazy and capping other students.
We have the right to bear arms because without that right government and society would have nothing stopping it from running over the individual.
Take Nazi Germany for instance. One of the first things on Adolf Hitler’s list was the confiscation of firearms. Well, the Jewish people had no defense against being rounded up by the Gestapo, and sadly, we all know how that turned out.
The government has no right to say we can’t carry a gun anywhere. The only person who has that right is a private property owner on his or her own property. As far as ULM is concerned, it is a public university.
People who get a license know you don’t pull out a gun unless you’re about to pull the trigger. I wouldn’t worry about people whopping out a gun in class to show it off. If everyone follows the rules – and one would assume if they have a permit then they do – then no one would know who has or doesn’t have a gun.
I understand people’s fears that ULM would become a shooting range, but I must disagree. Just because everyone has a gun doesn’t mean everyone is going to use one.
I own a small pistol that stays in my nightstand, and my house has no bullet holes in it.
