KEDM Public Radio is officially legal.
The public radio station located in Stubbs Hall celebrated the 21st anniversary of its first broadcast Monday, April 23. The celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a reception, which were attended by members of the founding steering committee, including former ULM President Dwight D. Vines.
Jay Curtis, program director of KEDM, said, “Twenty-one is a milestone year…It’s a chance to honor the founding steering committee who in the late ‘80s saw a need for public radio.”
Curtis also said the event showcases “what the station has been able to do in the last 20 years, such as bringing classical music to North Louisiana and to hear news that is both civil and in-depth.”
KEDM directors commemorated and thanked all of the people responsible for founding the station by presenting a plaque with their names inscribed on it to be hung inside their studio.
They spoke of how the station has grown since its inception in 1991, including its first digital broadcast three years ago.
Ambassadors of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce were also there to present a plaque to show their support and to honor and thank KEDM for their legacy in broadcasting to North Louisiana and Southeastern Arkansas.
The station hosted a reception.
“We are kicking off our membership drive, where we get important funding from listeners who call in and pledge,” said Lila Strode, development director of KEDM. “This is our 21st year, so we must be sure members of the original committee are honored.”
The station can be found at 90.3 on the radio dial.

I’m a Jan 1968 alum now living in San Francisco since 1977. When I’m visiting the Monroe area, I always set the car radio to 90.3. Good job!
