Beloved history professor Jones passes away

Horace P. Jones, known by many simply as HP, died this evening in his home. Jones taught history at ULM from 1965 until his retirement last May.

“When I talk to students, faculty, and alumni about their ULM experiences, one name always emerges—H.P. Jones. He made a tremendous impact on generations of our students,” said ULM President Nick Bruno.
With 47 years of teaching under his belt, Jones had the opportunity to touch the lives of many students.
Many students at ULM have expressed sadness upon learning of his death.
“He was a true American hero,” said Michael Roboski, a junior general business major. “He took a subject that most people consider boring and made it interesting because he didn’t just teach history–he lived it.”
Information on services for Jones is pending. The Hawkeye will update students on ways they can pay their respect as information becomes available.
