Computer science recieves accreditation

ULM’s computer science program recently received their re-accreditation from the Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology.

According to abet.org, accreditation is important because, “it is proof that a collegiate program has met certain standards necessary to produce graduates who are ready to enter their professions.”

Jose Cordova, computer science program coordinator said, “accreditation is also important for the Computer Science faculty, who receive valuable feedback on how to improve the program.”

Cordova said that in the process of re-accreditation, the first thing the program must do is “complete a self-study that covers a number of different areas: program objectives, assessment, curriculum, faculty, students, equipment, institutional support, and enrollment data.”

Even though the process requires a lot of work and time, Cordova said it is very valuable.
