Reading rainbow with the LGBT community

Looking for a fun, laid back way to meet new people, read new books, or have interesting, open minded conversations?

Then you might be interested in the Ouachita Parish Public Library’s new book club, Rainbow Reads.

Rainbow Reads is an inclusive book club for the LGBT+ community and its allies.

They meet on the last Monday of every month it aims to provide an inclusive environment for people who want to discover new books and discuss them.

The first book discussed by the group was “Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky.

Hien Nguyen, a junior health studies major, attended the first meeting.

“It was cozy and interesting,” she said. “My mind was broadened and I think it’s a great way to meet new people.”

Rainbow Reads is specifically aimed at young adults, but is accepting of all adults regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, or race.

“It was definitely interesting,” said Michel Minor, a senior pre-pharmacy major said, “I do think it’s a good thing that it exits.”

The next Rainbow Reads meeting will be on Monday, Feb. 29 at 5:30 p.m., at the Ouachita Parish Public Library Main Branch on N. 18th St. The book up for discussion is “Ask the Passengers” by A.S. King.
