Last Monday through Thursday, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Kappa Sigma Fraternity joined together under the Student Union Building (SUB) Overhang to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

After paying a dollar, participants put on a glove, dipped their palm in pink paint and stamped their handprint on the each organization’s Greek, wooden letters.

All proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation which has invested more than $2.9 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 60 countries.

It is also is the only organization that addresses breast cancer on multiple fronts such as research, community health, global outreach and public policy initiatives in order to make the biggest impact against this disease, according to their website.

They plan to keep raising awareness about breast cancer this week through a balloon release in collaboration with Phi Mu Fraternity.

This event will take place Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. under the SUB Overhang.

Also this week, the sorority plans to participate in a campus cleanup, hosted this Friday, Oct. 12 under the library overhang.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. also completed a Sickle Cell Awareness informational in early September.
