H2Go presents paddle events for locals

Imagine touring through the bayou, paddling past the turtles and floating under the cypress trees.

Students can take a break from their average day and set out on one of the many waterways in Ouachita Parish with H2Go in Monroe.

H2Go paddle instructor Christian True took a group of locals on a guided tour of Moon Lake on Wednesday. True taught the group how to paddle and kayak properly while taking them down the waterway. Early spring left Moon Lake with clear waters, cypress trees and plenty of wildlife to observe.

This local business rents kayaks, teaches paddling classes and gives workshops showcasing different camping techniques. These workshops teach those interested in backpacking and going on outdoor expenditures how to prepare.

H2Go also hosts paddle events for the community. With summer approaching, tours and open paddle events are in full swing.

Students can also request a guided tour if they don’t want to take on the water by themselves. Tours are offered for many waterways in Ouachita Parish. Or people can choose to tag along on the many open paddle events hosted by H2Go.

From Black Bayou to Frenchman’s Bend, there are many places to get out on the water.

For most students, kayaking on these open waterways may be a new experience. H2Go has kayaks that people can rent to use for $45 at their events. But if you have your own kayak, you can bring it instead and just join in.

A recurring monthly event is Friday Night Lights, an open paddle that began during COVID. This paddle event will start up in the spring and run through summer on Friday evenings.

“We just wanted an opportunity for everyone to get outside on the water instead of being stuck in the house,” said True. “So we began hosting an open paddle at night. People really enjoy it, and we have some that tag along every time.”

There are many other events planned for the rest of 2023 as well, including the Ouachita 49er, the Jan Elliot Memorial “Moon to Monroe” and the River Rat Paddle Challenge.

Anyone interested in H2Go events and tours can stop by their shop to find out more information from the crew.
