The Google Developer Student Club (GDSC) ushered in a new semester with its first general meeting on Sept. 20. Friday marked the club’s first meeting since its founding in 2022.
The meeting planned the club’s agenda for the academic year, specifically the GDSC’s ideas, upcoming events and officer elections.
GDSC President Dinesh Chhantyal, a junior computer science major, opened the meeting with a speech. He stressed the club’s commitment to becoming a hub for computer science majors.
“I want the GDSC at ULM to be the only IT club on campus,” Chhantyal said.
GDSC Vice President Abhishek Amgain, a junior computer science major, outlined the club’s plans for the year. He explained the club’s goal of fostering on-campus connections and connecting with local employers.
“We will be organizing events like Hackathons, portfolio development workshops and coding competitions,” Amgain said. “It’s all about giving students the tools to grow and learn while also having some fun.”
In addition to presenting their vision, GDSC officers opened the floor to students interested in leadership roles. Members running for freshman representative, secretary and treasurer had two minutes to pitch why they should be elected. Freshman representative candidate Jeevan Parajuli expressed his excitement about the club.
“I believe GDSC is a great opportunity for us not just to learn new skills but also make connections that will last beyond our time at ULM,” Parajuli said. “I’m really excited to be a part of GDSC. It feels like the start of something new, and I can’t wait to see how we can all grow and learn together.”
